Monica Azevedo Productions is the home of the upcoming feature movies “The Holy Inquisition” (click for brief synopsis) and “The Stranger”.

THE HOLY INQUISITION, the adaptation of a play written by Dias Gomes, is based on a poignant true story.

It is a romantic drama that takes place during the XVIII Century in Brazil which tells the story of a beautiful young woman of Jewish ancestry who saves a Catholic priest from drowning in a river and ends up being accused by him of heresy before the relentless Holy Inquisition Court.

A film based on another play of the same author called “The Given Word”, was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film in 1963 and a year before, it won the Golden Palm at the Cannes Film Festival, the Special Jury Prize at the Cartagena Film Festival and the Golden Gate Award for Best Film at the San Francisco International Film Festival.
